A 32 year old American artist from Missouri, Andrew makes uniquely fresh, beautiful, very large-scale work which is of awesome strength and beauty.
We hope to be able to bring his work to the UK in 2011 for a major solo show.
Andrew obtained his BFA at the New York School of Visual Arts, and is now emerging onto the primary art market with these powerful, bold, abstract paintings.
Philip Guston, Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning, Mary Heilmann, Vincent Van Gogh, Marcel Duchamp are all influences of Andrew’s and this is reflected in his work, which is full of the vivid freshness of an art form just exploding onto the canvas.
Andrew Weis has this to say about his work:
“I’m inspired by non-objective abstract painting and motivated by the thrill of engaging in that tradition of high art which is most experimental, unexpected and thought-provoking. I paint primarily with oil, acrylic and enamel, on wood panels or canvas, switching between or combining media when I get too comfortable with one in particular. The variations in drying time and fluidity between the different paints and textures/hardness of surfaces help to keep the creative process dynamic and unsettled.”
Andrew’s work is available exclusively through Gallery Violet in the UK.
