‘Sleeping Nude with Flowers & Headscarf’, oil on canvas, 48″ x 54″, 2010, by Hugo Grenville
Gallery Violet is pleased to announce its next Pop-Up Exhibition, and delighted to announce that for the first time in Suffolk, we will be bringing two show-stopping large-scale works by leading British Romantic Painter, Hugo Grenville.
Hugo Grenville’s dreamy paintings reveal a spiritual intensity. In their exploration of colour harmony, and in their celebration of pattern making, they peel back layers of feeling. The still lifes and figure subjects are inhabited by everyday objects that provide the inspiration to express the joy of light, colour and shape. In the landscapes the world around us becomes a visual poem that reveals something about how the experience feels, rather than just how it looks.
The show will take place in the Georgian splendour of Orwell Park School, Nacton, Ipswich on 15-23 March 2012.
There will be Private Views on Thursday 15th March and Friday 16th between 5pm and 8pm, followed by a Public Day on Saturday 17th March from 10am – 4pm.
Both these events are open to the public, and artists exhibited in the show will be present at various time. Invitations are not necessary but available by sending your details to info@galleryviolet.com.
Art enthusiasts looking to see the exhibition and buy work outside of these public times until March 23rd should make an appointment with the school office on 01473 659 225.
‘Gulls After the Rain’, Oil on Canvas, by Anthony Giles at Gallery Violet
Anick Purmessur, who owns and runs Gallery Violet, is constantly on the look-out for the best new artists to join its stable, and at the Spring Pop-Up she will be showing work by Anthony Giles, who paints powerful large-scale oil Landscapes, often depicting such subjects as the bleak marshes at Dungeness or the picturesque Oare Creek at Faversham, the moment of a rainstorm at sea off Margate, or the sunlight reflecting on a quiet river at Sandwich.
Anick Purmessur, Gallery Violet’s Managing Director says:
“Shades of both Turner and Edward Seago are ever present in Giles’ work, and it is rare that a contemporary artist captures the essence of the British Landscape with such clarity and perspicacity”.
‘Links’ by Colin Slee at Gallery Violet.
Colin Slee’s pastoral paintings and drawings are filled with the atmosphere of estuaries, seashore, moorland and forest. They are the result of a love affair with the local countryside that began in 1993 when he first visited Suffolk. He is now based near Orford, Suffolk.
Colin uses pastels and charcoal on paper, and also acrylics on large-scale canvasses to respond to his environment and to portray an atmospheric and emotional sense of place.
Collectors love his deeply evocative and dreamy scenes that firmly place him within the modern art world. His work is therefore highly sought-after.
The gallery is also bringing selected work by some other exciting artists including work by Andrew Weis, an emerging US artist who paints sublime, very large-scale abstract work that resonates with vitality and feeling. Amanda Ansell makes magical paintings full of the stillness and peace of swans on a crisp winter’s morning
Anick Purmessur, who founded Gallery Violet in 2010, says:
‘After the resounding success of 2010’s Pop-Up Exhibitions, it’s a real pleasure and a privilege for my Gallery to show such wonderful artists in Suffolk once again, and being able to bring Hugo Grenville’s work to be shown in his home county is wonderful.’
The deeply honest and committed nature of these artists and their willingness to experiment reveals a commitment to art that can be both intellectually stimulating as well as instinctually engaging. A testament to the coherence, diversity and energy of Gallery Violet’s collection.
Collectors should contact Anick by email at anick@galleryviolet.com or by telephone on 01206 322 025 to receive an invitation or for more information.
